Waterproof dog collar from UNBORINGBYPIP, easy to clean without a washing machine

A waterproof dog collar usually does not need to be washed in the washing machine. Rinse loose dirt with lukewarm water, only use a mild detergent when the maker allows it and dry the collar with a soft cloth. Always check the maintenance instructions of your collar, because material, coating and fittings differ per product.

First check the material and fittings

A coated waterproof collar is cleaned differently than a leather or textile collar. Therefore, check the label or product page before you start. The term waterproof tells something about water resistance, but does not automatically confirm a specific brand or material such as BioThane.

Also view the clasp, ring and connections. Sand and mud often collect around moving parts. Carefully rinse away dirt and immediately check for wear, deformation or sharp edges.

Cleaning a dog collar in three steps

  1. Rinse off loose dirt. Use lukewarm water and gently move the buckle and ring to loosen sand.
  2. Remove the collar. Use a soft cloth. Only add a mild detergent when the care instructions allow it.
  3. Allow it to dry thoroughly. Dry the collar and fittings and allow the collar to dry further before your dog wears it again.

What you should not do

Do not automatically put the collar in the washing machine or dryer. Heat, prolonged soaking and aggressive agents can damage the coating, color or fitting. Do not use bleach and do not scrub with a hard brush.

Do not leave a wet or muddy collar around the neck for a long time. This can be unpleasant for the skin and coat, even if the band itself is waterproof.

How often do you clean the collar

Clean it whenever you see visible dirt, sand or salt and after a walk through mud or water. A regular weekly wash is not necessary for every dog. Regular short checks are more important than unnecessarily intensive cleaning.

Frequently asked questions

Can a waterproof dog collar be washed in the washing machine?

Only when the creator expressly allows this. Rinsing and wiping is the safer first step for many coated collars.

Can I use soap?

Only use a mild detergent when the care instructions allow it. If in doubt, test a small, inconspicuous area first.

How do I clean the buckle?

Rinse away sand carefully, move the buckle a few times and dry it thoroughly. Check immediately whether it still closes smoothly and reliably.

How often should I clean the collar?

With visible dirt and after mud, salt or water. In addition, check the collar regularly for wear.

Can I use the same approach for the dog leash?

Only when material and maintenance instructions match. Please check the product information of the belt separately.
