A shock-absorbing leash contains an elastic part that stretches when the leash suddenly becomes tight. The belt remains limited, but the transition from loose to tight feels less abrupt. How much difference you notice depends on the elasticity, the length of the leash and the strength of your dog.

Don't just look at the total length. Check for what dog weight and pulling force the manufacturer has made the leash.
The amount of suspension
A small elastic section provides subtle cushioning. A long elastic zone feels softer, but also provides more movement before you adjust.
The connection with your dog
Preferably attach the leash to a well fitting harness. This way, the force is distributed across the chest and a sudden jerk does not fall entirely on the neck.
The way you wear the belt
A belt around your waist can be nice for running. For busy walks, a handle close to the closure provides extra control.
Shock absorption does not replace training
