BioThane is a brand name for coated webbing from BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. The core consists of polyester and has a layer of TPU or PVC. This makes the material waterproof and easy to clean. Not every coated or waterproof dog leash is automatically from BioThane. The manufacturer must explicitly confirm the brand and material.
What is BioThane made of?
The polyester core gives the tire its tensile strength. The coating protects the outside and provides a smooth, easily removable surface. BioThane is therefore not a general material name such as nylon or polyester, but a registered brand name.
The manufacturer uses different coatings and types of tape. Properties may therefore differ per version. When purchasing a dog leash, always ask for the complete product, not just for one well-known material name.
Why is it used for dog leashes?
Coated webbing is practical when a leash often gets wet or dirty. Water and mud are usually easy to wipe away and the surface absorbs dirt less quickly than untreated textiles.
