The best harness for your Dachshund.

Dachshunds have a vulnerable back. A harness protects the neck and vertebrae and gives you more control. Here we explain which size fits and why a harness for Dachshunds isn't a luxury but prevention.

01 · The Breed

Why a Dachshund should always wear a harness.

Dachshunds have a long body and short legs. That body type makes them extra vulnerable to back problems, particularly herniated discs (IVDD). A collar that puts pressure on the neck when pulling increases that risk.

A dog harness moves all force to the chest and away from the neck and back. Vets almost always recommend a harness for Dachshunds. It's not a luxury — it's prevention. Especially for Dachshund puppies whose back is still developing.

02 · The Product

What to look for in a harness for a Dachshund?

Dachshunds have a unique body shape: a long back, deep chest, and short legs. Many harnesses don't fit well because they're designed for 'standard' proportions. The Unboring harness has a Y-shaped design that fits the deep Dachshund chest.

01

No pressure on the back

The Y-design distributes force across the chest. No straps running over the long back putting pressure on the vulnerable vertebrae.

02

Fits a deep chest

Dachshunds have a surprisingly deep chest for their size. The 4 adjustable points ensure the harness fits well on this specific body type.

03

Lightweight

In size XS the harness is lightweight enough for a Dachshund without weighing them down, but the coated hardware is strong enough for their enthusiastic pulling.

03 · The Right Size

Which size harness fits a Dachshund?

Standard Dachshunds (7-15 kg) usually fit size XS (chest circumference 30-42 cm) or size S (40-56 cm). Miniature Dachshunds and Rabbit Dachshunds fit size XS. Larger standard Dachshunds may fit size S.

Measure the chest circumference at the widest point. For Dachshunds that sits quite low, just behind the front legs. Keep two fingers of space. Check our size guide for exact measurements. Available in Cocoa, Lilac, Moonlight Blue, and Moss.

Frequently asked questions.

What size harness does a Dachshund need?

Most standard Dachshunds fit size XS (chest circumference 30-42 cm) or size S (40-56 cm). Miniature and Rabbit Dachshunds fit size XS. Always measure the chest circumference at the widest point.

Is a harness better than a collar for a Dachshund?

Yes, absolutely. Dachshunds are extra sensitive to back problems (IVDD). A collar puts pressure on the neck, which strains the back. A harness moves all force to the chest. Vets recommend a harness for virtually all Dachshunds.

Does the harness fit well on a Dachshund's long back?

Our Y-harness connects at the chest and leaves the back free. No straps run over the long back that could put pressure on the vertebrae. The design is specifically suitable for dogs with a non-standard body type.

Can my Dachshund puppy wear a harness already?

Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Dachshund puppies have a back that's still developing and needs extra protection. Start with size XS and check every two weeks if it still fits.
