The bestharnessfor your Border Collie.
Border Collies are smart, fast, and full of energy. A good harness gives you control without restricting their freedom of movement. Here we explain which size fits and what to look for.
Why aBorder Collieneeds a harness.
Border Collies are the smartest dogs in the world. They learn fast, react to everything, and have an enormous drive to move. On a leash that can mean: sudden lunges at birds, cyclists, or other dogs. With a collar, that shock goes entirely to the neck.
A dog harness absorbs those shocks through the chest and shoulders. That's safer for your Border Collie and gives you more control in unexpected situations. Especially with the front clip, you can better manage reactive behaviour.
What to look for in a harness for aBorder Collie?
Border Collies have an athletic, lean body. They're agile and fast. A harness needs to fit well without restricting freedom of movement. The Unboring harness has a Y-shaped design that leaves the shoulders free — essential for a breed built to run.
Free shoulders
The Y-design lets the shoulders move completely free. No straps running over the shoulder blades restricting natural movement.
Front clip for reactive dogs
Border Collies react quickly to stimuli. The front clip turns your dog towards you during sudden lunges, without harsh correction.
4 adjustable points
Border Collies are lean but muscular. The 4 adjustment points ensure the harness fits snugly without pinching, even with a narrow chest.
Which size harness fits aBorder Collie?
Most Border Collies (15-25 kg) fit size M (chest circumference 52-72 cm). Smaller females may fit size S (40-56 cm). Males with a wider chest are sometimes on the border of M and L.
Measure the chest circumference at the widest point, just behind the front legs. Keep two fingers of space. Not sure? Always choose the larger size — the harness is adjustable on 4 points. Check our size guide for exact measurements. Available in Cocoa, Lilac, Moonlight Blue, and Moss.

Frequently asked questions.
What size harness does a Border Collie need?
Most Border Collies fit size M (chest circumference 52-72 cm). Smaller females may fit size S (40-56 cm). Always measure at the widest point of the chest and keep two fingers of space.
Does a harness restrict my Border Collie's freedom of movement?
Not if it's a Y-harness. Our design lets the shoulders move completely free. Harnesses with straps over the shoulder blades (H-harnesses) can restrict movement — we don't recommend those for active breeds.
My Border Collie is reactive to other dogs. Does a harness help?
A front-clip harness gives you more control during sudden lunges. Your dog turns towards you instead of towards the trigger. It doesn't replace behaviour training, but it makes managing easier and safer.
Can I also use the harness when running with my Border Collie?
Yes. Use the back clip for running — it's more comfortable at a steady pace. Combine with our hands-free leash so your hands are free.
