The best harness for small dogs.

Small dogs have a vulnerable neck and trachea. A harness isn't just more comfortable — it's medically necessary. Here we explain which size fits and what to look for.

01 · The Importance

Why a harness is extra important for small dogs.

Small dogs have a vulnerable neck and trachea. In breeds under 10 kg, tracheal collapse (narrowing of the trachea) is a common problem. A collar that puts pressure on the neck can worsen this — even in dogs that barely pull.

A dog harness moves all pressure to the chest. Vets almost always recommend a harness for small breeds. It's prevention: prevent problems before they arise. Whether you have a Maltese, Jack Russell, Cavalier, or Dachshund.

02 · The Product

What to look for in a harness for a small dog?

A harness for a small dog needs to be lightweight, fit well, and not shift. Many harnesses are designed for medium to large dogs and simply made smaller — but the proportions are then off.

01

Lightweight

Our harness in size XS is designed with small dogs in mind. Light enough that your dog barely feels it, sturdy enough for daily use.

02

4 adjustment points

Small dogs vary enormously in body shape. A Dachshund is built very differently from a Maltese. The 4 adjustable points ensure a perfect fit for every type.

03

Escape-proof

Small dogs are flexible and can slip out of poorly fitting harnesses. Adjust the harness properly — two fingers of space, no more — and the Y-design keeps everything in place.

03 · The Right Size

Which size harness for a small dog?

Size XS (chest circumference 30-42 cm) fits most small breeds: Maltese, Chihuahuas, miniature Dachshunds, Yorkshire Terriers. Size S (40-56 cm) fits slightly larger small breeds: Jack Russells, Cavaliers, standard Dachshunds, Cocker Spaniels.

Always measure the chest circumference at the widest point. For small dogs, precision is extra important — a centimetre can make the difference between fitting well and too loose. Check our size guide for help with measuring.

Frequently asked questions.

What size harness for a small dog?

Size XS (30-42 cm chest circumference) for dogs under 5 kg. Size S (40-56 cm) for dogs 5-10 kg. Always measure at the widest point of the chest.

Isn't a harness too heavy for a small dog?

No. Our harness in size XS is designed to be lightweight. The coated hardware is compact but strong. Your dog barely feels the harness.

My small dog slips out of every harness. What can I do?

Adjust the harness snugly on all 4 adjustment points. You should be able to fit exactly two fingers between. Too loose is the most common mistake with small dogs.

Which leash goes with a small harness?

Our waterproof leash in Small size is lighter and shorter (120 cm) — perfect for small dogs. The standard leash (150 cm) works too, but Small is more comfortable.
